Q&A WITH KARINA VALS
How long have you worked in accounting, finance, and/or tech? Recruiting?
I am new to the recruiting industry. I recently graduated with my degree in Human Resources from San Jose State University. Although this is the first step in my recruitment career, I completed an HRIS Internship in July 2017 where I was exposed to internal recruiting and was fascinated by it.
How were you introduced to the recruiting industry?
I was introduced to the recruiting industry while completing my undergraduate degree in Human Resources from SJSU, as well as through my participation at SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management).
Why do you look forward to working in accounting, finance or tech talent acquisition?
I look forward to connecting with talented and intelligent professionals. I want to be able to find each company the right fit for the job, enriching both the company and the candidate.
If you were to provide advice to peers in accounting, finance, or tech seeking to develop their careers, what would it be?
I would advise to keep on building and maintaining connections and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
How did you first learn about the DeWinter Group?
I first learned about DeWinter Group through a family friend.
What are 3 words to describe the DeWinter Group (or your impression thus far)?
How do you plan on developing the DeWinter Group? What are your goals for the coming year?
I plan on developing the connections internally and externally. It is very important for me to continue spreading DeWinter’s wonderful reputation with every interaction that I have. My personal goal for the coming year is to learn as much as I can from my colleagues.
How do you plan on practicing the DeWinter Group’s Mission Statement: ‘We Build Our Network One Relationship at a Time’?
I plan on focusing on candidate experience and portraying the attentiveness and professionalism that DeWinter Group is known for. This will be achieved by listening and communicating effectively with all partied involved.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley?
My favorite thing to do in the Bay Area is to absorb and learn about cultures from all over the world through their food.
What did you originally want to be when you grew up?
Since I was a kid it was always a changing decision between a lawyer and a doctor.
What’s your favorite ’90s jam?
Anything Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. Classics.
