Meet Jamie Chan, DeWinter Consulting’s Newest Recruiting Manager
The DeWinter Group’s contract and contract-to-hire financial search division, DeWinter Consulting, welcomes Recruiting Manager, Jamie Chan. We’ve asked Jamie to answer a few questions regarding her past experiences and goals for the DeWinter Group. Make sure to take a look and welcome her to the team!
Q&A WITH JAMIE CHIN
How long have you worked in accounting, finance, and/or tech? Recruiting?
I’ve been in Recruiting now for approximately 5+ years; I’ve recruited for Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, and Administrative professionals during my tenure.
How were you introduced to the recruiting industry?
I was introduced completely by accident. I applied for a position online to Robert Half and went in for an interview. They had an internal opportunity for a Staffing Manager and thought I would be a good fit. The rest is history!
Why do you look forward to working in accounting, finance or tech talent acquisition?
I enjoy working with accomplished Accounting and Finance professionals and assisting them with their job search. Every person and situation is different so it makes my job fun!
If you were to provide advice to peers in accounting, finance, or tech seeking to develop their careers, what would it be?
I would advise Accounting and Finance professionals to always learn something that will add value to their current profile, whether it be a system, process, requirements, etc. that will make them more marketable. Always be learning!
How did you first learn about the DeWinter Group?
I learned about the DeWinter Group while working for my former employer. The company was a competitor but was DeWinter Group had an outstanding reputation.
What are 3 words to describe the DeWinter Group (or your impression thus far)?
- Hardworking, but fun at the same time!
How do you plan on developing the DeWinter Group? What are your goals for the coming year?
My main goal is to work hard and take a huge chunk of the Oakland/East Bay market! I have previously worked in that market before and understand that there is a huge market that we are not yet a part of – that will all change! I plan on heavily recruiting for the East Bay territory, building and maintaining meaningful relationships with candidates to ensure successful placements for the team.
How do you plan on practicing the DeWinter Group’s Mission Statement: ‘We Build Our Network One Relationship at a Time’?
I am going to invest time in getting to know the candidates more, to ensure they know they are not just a number. I will always do my best to let them know that I have their best interest at heart. By doing this, I will work with full transparency. I will also provide them with career advice, market intel and current trends. Candidates always appreciate this. And they appreciate consistent follow through, even if they did not get the engagement. This is what I truly believe in and has worked well for me in the past.
How do you plan on balancing your career at the DeWinter Group and free time?
I love to work because I love what I do, so this will be my biggest challenge. I will do my best to take time off when needed to refresh and make sure I still make time to be with family. DeWinter has been extremely flexible and this is one of the main reasons I joined. However, in consulting, to have a sense of urgency is extremely important, especially in a tight candidate market like we are currently in.
Where are you originally from?
Bay Area! Specifically from Fremont, CA.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley?
I love discovering new places – to eat, to do outdoor activities, and places for me to spend quality time with my husband and boys.
What did you originally want to be when you grew up?
A professional ballerina or snowboarder haha …
