A Q&A with DeWinter Associates’ Executive Recruiter, Rachel Tavana
Q&A WITH RACHEL TAVANA
How long have you worked in accounting, finance, and/or tech? Recruiting?
I’ve worked in accounting and finance for almost 9 years. I don’t have any experience as a recruiter, however I’ve sourced, recruited, and hired roles on my past teams.
How were you introduced to the recruiting industry?
While working at a Big 4 accounting firm, I attended every campus recruiting event I could. I loved having the opportunity to meet students who were just about to embark on their career journey and educating them on the company and the role I was doing.
Why do you look forward to working in accounting, finance or tech talent acquisition?
Throughout my career in accounting and finance, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some great recruiters. I want to be able to be the same resource for others by helping companies hire the right people and helping candidates find the right career fit.
If you were to provide advice to peers in accounting, finance, or tech seeking to develop their careers, what would it be?
Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be intimidated by rejection.
How were you introduced to the DeWinter Group?
Meghan Hanson had recruited me for several accounting and finance roles in San Francisco.
What are 3 words to describe the DeWinter Group (or your impression thus far)?
How do you plan on developing the DeWinter Group? What are your goals for the coming year?
I plan to leverage my existing network to grow the brand’s footprint in the Bay Area. I’m eager to engage with my successful colleagues, so I can learn best practices and develop the skills that will lead to my success and the overall success of the firm. I’m looking forward to meeting new people, learning about their experiences and what they are looking for in their next role, and the rewarding feeling of placing someone in a new role they love!
How do you plan on practicing the DeWinter Group’s Mission Statement: ‘We Build Our Network One Relationship at a Time’?
Having a deep understanding of needs and wants of the client and candidate is important in building a relationship. I plan to listen, engage, and be genuine with every person I interact with.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley?
Trying new restaurants and breweries (or sitting on the couch watching the Office re-runs!).
What did you originally want to be when you grew up?
What’s your favorite ’90s jam?
Rhythm of the Night by Corona.
