  • Develop, implement, and manage the site’s Laser Safety Program in accordance with ANSI Z136.1 standards.
  • Serve as or support the Laser Safety Officer (LSO); classify laser systems and evaluate associated hazards.
  • Approve and review laser SOPs and control measures (engineering, administrative, PPE).
  • Ensure laser-controlled areas meet signage, access control, and interlock requirements.
  • Conduct and document laser safety training for all users.
  • Perform routine laser lab audits and inspections; document and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Lead or assist in incident investigations involving laser systems.
General EHS Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and state/local safety regulations.
  • Perform job hazard assessments (JHAs) and risk evaluations.
  • Lead safety inspections, audits, and regulatory readiness.
  • Conduct EHS training programs (chemical safety, ergonomics, emergency response, etc.).
  • Maintain safety records, SDS databases, and compliance documentation.
  • Support hazardous waste management and environmental compliance efforts.
  • Collaborate across departments to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in a laser-using environment (labs, R&D, manufacturing, or medical).
  • Working knowledge of ANSI Z136.1 (Safe Use of Lasers) is required.
  • Certification as Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or willingness to become certified.
  • Strong understanding of applicable EHS regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills.
