- Develop, implement, and manage the site’s Laser Safety Program in accordance with ANSI Z136.1 standards.
- Serve as or support the Laser Safety Officer (LSO); classify laser systems and evaluate associated hazards.
- Approve and review laser SOPs and control measures (engineering, administrative, PPE).
- Ensure laser-controlled areas meet signage, access control, and interlock requirements.
- Conduct and document laser safety training for all users.
- Perform routine laser lab audits and inspections; document and follow up on corrective actions.
- Lead or assist in incident investigations involving laser systems.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and state/local safety regulations.
- Perform job hazard assessments (JHAs) and risk evaluations.
- Lead safety inspections, audits, and regulatory readiness.
- Conduct EHS training programs (chemical safety, ergonomics, emergency response, etc.).
- Maintain safety records, SDS databases, and compliance documentation.
- Support hazardous waste management and environmental compliance efforts.
- Collaborate across departments to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in a laser-using environment (labs, R&D, manufacturing, or medical).
- Working knowledge of ANSI Z136.1 (Safe Use of Lasers) is required.
- Certification as Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or willingness to become certified.
- Strong understanding of applicable EHS regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills.
