Title:  AI Engineer
Job Type:  Perm/Full Time
Target Start Date: ASAP
Work Location/Structure:  Hybrid, Southeastern Michigan area.

About the Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in Healthcare and Life Sciences, is looking for a skilled  AI Engineer  to join their team for a permanent engagement. This project involves developing and deploying cutting-edge artificial intelligence solutions that can make a meaningful impact in healthcare and life sciences. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly, blending research, engineering, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Design and implement production-ready AI agents that interact with scientific data, tools, and APIs.
  • Build scalable machine learning infrastructure and implement MLOps practices, including model versioning, monitoring, and automated retraining.
  • Collaborate with product management and scientific teams to identify high-impact opportunities and translate scientific requirements into technical solutions.
  • Build and fine-tune foundation models (language, multimodal, generative) for biological and clinical data.
  • Ensure AI systems meet regulatory compliance requirements relevant to biotech and healthcare, aligning with FDA and other regulatory frameworks.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 3-5 years of experience in machine learning engineering with production deployment experience.
  • Deep expertise in Python, relevant ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or equivalent), and hands-on experience building or fine-tuning large models (transformers, diffusion, multimodal). This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals, with experience in startup or fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with creating AI agents and multi-agent systems, proficiency in data engineering tools, and practical experience deploying models as services or agents in production.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team and present to both technical and business audiences.
  • 2+ years of experience applying AI/ML in biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare domains, with familiarity with biological data types and analysis pipelines.
