Collection/Billing Specialist — Remote Contract Opportunity
Overview
Join a fast-paced, cloud-based software organization as a Collection/Billing Specialist supporting a high-priority accounts receivable cleanup initiative. In this hands-on role, you’ll research and resolve complex billing discrepancies, manage aged receivables, communicate directly with customers about outstanding balances, and execute payment plans that drive timely resolution.
You’ll work as part of a collaborative finance team, partnering with internal departments to investigate account issues, escalate concerns appropriately, and develop effective solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong collections experience with excellent communication, sound judgment, empathy, persistence, and the ability to stay organized in a high-volume environment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in customer-facing collections and payment-plan execution
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable aging, billing, payment application, and account reconciliation
- Experience researching and resolving complex billing discrepancies, payment issues, and account disputes
- Ability to manage high-volume invoicing and active collections accounts accurately and efficiently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate with customers using professionalism, empathy, and firmness
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience handling collections escalations and following approval processes
- Strong organization and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Finance, Sales, Customer Success, and other internal teams
- Familiarity with accounts receivable, billing, payment, or enterprise resource planning systems
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with subscription, recurring, usage-based, or software-as-a-service billing
- Background supporting collections in a technology or cloud software environment
- Experience managing high-volume invoicing, including 10,000 or more invoices per month
- Experience managing approximately 1,000–2,000 active collection accounts
- Familiarity with Salesforce, Stripe, NetSuite, or similar platforms
- Experience with cash application, short-pay resolution, chargebacks, refunds, or write-offs
- Proven success reducing aged receivables or improving collection processes
- Experience working with customer billing or procurement portals
- Experience with customer account research, payment investigations, and discrepancy resolution
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
- At least 3 years of experience in accounts receivable, billing, collections, or related finance operations
- Demonstrated experience resolving disputes, negotiating payment arrangements, and managing complex customer billing inquiries
- Experience working in a high-volume, customer-facing finance environment
Other Requirements
- Work arrangement: 100% remote; an office environment may also be available
- Preference for candidates located on the West Coast or in a similar time zone; a difference of approximately one hour is acceptable
- Temporary contract assignment expected to last approximately 3 months, with the possibility of extension
- Availability to start as soon as possible
- Reliable internet connection and ability to work effectively in a remote environment
- Ability to use a personal computer to begin the assignment is preferred; company equipment may be provided if needed
- Strong attention to detail, adaptability, communication, and teamwork are essential
