Overview:
Join a dynamic medical device company in San Jose as their new Director of Accounting, a pivotal leadership role responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the company’s financial reporting and driving operational excellence across core accounting functions. This role is crucial in guiding the finance team through a period of transformation, including enhancing month-end closing efficiency, leading the 2025 fiscal audit with Deloitte, and streamlining processes in a lean environment. If you thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like setting with complex financial oversight, this is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant impact in a growing organization.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience overseeing the general ledger
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and experience leading Big 4 audit engagements
  • Hands-on expertise in cost accounting and inventory management within a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to manage payroll, AP/AR, treasury functions, and vendor relationships
  • Strong technical accounting skills, including complex areas such as ASC 718, stock-based compensation, and revenue recognition
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to quickly adapt in a lean, startup-like environment
  • Proficiency with NetSuite (mandatory) and familiarity with Floqast (preferred)

Nice to Have Skills:

  • CPA license
  • Big 4 public accounting experience
  • Industry experience in medical devices, diagnostics, or life sciences
  • Venture-backed company experience, especially with complex equity and debt transactions
  • Experience with stock administration platforms such as Carta
  • Background working with external tax, audit, and technical accounting advisors

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years of comprehensive accounting leadership, with relevant experience in manufacturing, public accounting, or high-growth settings

Other Requirements:

  • Immediate availability for a contract-to-hire role
  • Onsite presence in San Jose, with a flexible schedule (3-4 days in office, ideally Tuesdays and Wednesdays)
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal ramp-up, managing internal teams and external vendors effectively
  • Willingness to oversee all core finance operations, including audits, tax, payroll, and treasury functions, in a fast-paced, evolving environment
