Qualifications
- 8–12+ years of progressive experience across finance, FP&A, and accounting in venture-backed Series B to later-stage startup environments.
- Proven success with VC fundraising, investor diligence, and board-level reporting.
- Deep understanding of SaaS business models, unit economics, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and controllership functions.
- High autonomy and comfort navigating ambiguity; willing to operate both strategically and tactically in a lean, fast-paced environment.
- Advanced financial modeling skills (Excel/Google Sheets) and hands-on experience implementing or scaling financial, billing, and ERP platforms.
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Finance (or Head of Finance) to lead and scale our financial strategy, FP&A, and overall accounting architecture as we grow through our next phase of expansion. Operating in a lean startup environment, this leader will blend high-level financial planning and VC fundraising support with direct oversight of core accounting functions. You will serve as a key strategic advisor to leadership while managing our internal accounting team (including a Senior Accounting Manager/Controller and overseeing relationships with external accounting firms.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Finance & FP&A: Own the company’s financial model, long-range planning, budgeting, and monthly variance reporting. Track core SaaS/operating metrics (ARR, NRR, GRR, CAC, LTV, payback, churn) and partner with GTM and Engineering to align spend, ROI, and headcount planning.
- Capital Raising & Investor Relations: Lead investor reporting, board pack preparation, and diligence efforts for future VC fundraising rounds and strategic initiatives.
- Accounting & Controllership Oversight: Direct accounting operations, internal controls, and GAAP compliance (ASC 606 revenue recognition, deferred revenue, equity/comp accounting). Oversee monthly close and manage external resources (e.g., Kruze Consulting) while bringing core functions in-house.
- Team Leadership & Scaling: Manage and mentor the accounting team (Senior Accounting Manager/Controller), guide hiring strategies for future team expansion, and drive clear cross-functional processes.
- Finance Operations & Automation: Build scalable workflows for procurement, cash management, and spend discipline; evaluate, implement, and optimize modern financial systems (NetSuite/QBO, Stripe, Ramp, Bill.com, Rillet).
