About the Opportunity
Our client, a long-standing leader in the industrial services and manufacturing industry with a multi-location service network of labs, is looking for a highly strategic, analytical, and hands-on Director of Sales & Operations Planning. This role is crucial to the company’s ability to scale growth and improve profitability following a period of organic growth and acquisitions. This Director will act as a system builder and owner, responsible for designing, improving, and operating the planning framework that brings rigor and coordination to the flow of work across the entire enterprise. This is a high-impact, individual contributor role that requires a self-motivated professional with full ownership and accountability for outcomes.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
This role focuses on building and running the operational planning system to ensure demand flow is managed efficiently and consistently across all labs, adhering to the critical 5-day turnaround time (TAT) target.
- Demand and Capacity Planning: Own the development and continuous improvement of all demand forecasting models, deliver and maintain rolling short-term, medium-term, and long-term demand and capacity outlooks. Develop and refine capacity planning frameworks, and identify structural gaps to drive system-level recommendations (e.g., hiring, cross-training).
- Turnaround Time Predictability & Alignment: Own the analysis of Turnaround Time (TAT) variability and its systemic drivers, and drive coordination efforts that improve on-time delivery and predictability. Own and drive the structured demand and capacity review process to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Scenario Modeling & Decision Enablement: Build and own scenario models to support strategic decisions, including hiring plans, cross-training strategies, and workload balancing. Translate complex data analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced system builder with a strong sense of ownership who is comfortable operating as a deeply hands-on individual contributor. The ideal candidate will have:
- 7–15 years of progressive experience in operations planning, supply chain management, industrial engineering, or capacity management.
- Experience in multi-site or distributed service operations.
- Demonstrated ability to design and build systems and processes.
- Strong systems thinking, analytical rigor, and a proven data-driven decision-making mindset.
- Strong experience in Sales Operations and Demand Planning is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and modeling is required.
- Strong executive communication and presentation skills with the proven ability to influence senior leadership.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Business, or a related field is required. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
- Work Environment: Primarily office-based environment in Santa Clara, CA. The role requires periodic travel to operational sites, estimated at 25%.
