Job Type:
Contract
Contract Length:
6 months
Target Start Date:
11/24/25
Work Location/Structure:
Palo Alto - Onsite
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in Automotive Manufacturing, is looking for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer
to join their team for a 6 month engagement. This project involves building robust, beautiful, data-centric automated testing equipment for Tesla’s power electronics and battery manufacturing lines, focusing on mechanical, electrical, software, and controls of capital equipment for production lines around the world. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Architecting novel, fully automated testing machinery from first principles, balancing cost, lead time, complexity, and test coverage across disciplines.
- Developing test specifications and breaking down requirements into a detailed execution plan while mentoring/advising more junior engineers on sub-system implementation.
- Researching and specifying electrical test equipment such as measurement equipment, power supplies, sensors, I/O devices, and other hardware to meet test requirements.
- Designing schematics and layout for industrial electrical control panels which are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant and reviewing more junior engineers’ designs.
- Implementing and validating reliable industrial safety systems (OSHA, ISO standards compliant) to safeguard high voltage and mechanical hazards.
- Debugging/optimizing automated processes to minimize cycle time and maximize uptime.
- Performing bench testing on electrical components to validate test processes.
- Developing PLC sequences in Allen Bradley and Siemens for automated test machinery.
- Domestic and international travel up to 20%.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of hands-on controls/mechatronics/test/automation engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in specifying electrical test equipment including but not limited to power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers; proficiency building complex machine schematics in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical CAD software; and experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), preferably in Rockwell Allen Bradley Studio 5000 and/or Siemens TIA Portal. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Experience with automation in an industrial/manufacturing environment and exposure to high voltage power electronics (inverters, DC-DC converters, etc...).
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
