Contract Length: 6 months
Target Start Date: 2/18/2026
Work Location/Structure: Flexible (Toronto, CA; Reno, NV; Palo Alto, CA; Austin, TX; or fully remote)
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in the automotive and advanced engineering industries, is looking for a skilled Electrical CAD Designer/Drafter to join their team for a Contract-to-Hire engagement. This project involves the design and documentation of automated and manual test equipment for their entire product line, which includes batteries, drive units, charging systems, and cutting-edge robotics. This is a new, high-impact role critical for bridging the gap between engineering and documentation, focusing on design and schematic creation under the oversight of a Staff Engineer. This position requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly in a high-demand environment.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Translate engineering requirements and conceptual designs into high-quality electrical schematics and drawings.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical and software validation teams to ensure hardware designs align with test sequences.
- Support the full hardware lifecycle, from initial design and documentation to in-house technician builds.
- Manage and prioritize a high volume of design requests to maintain project momentum in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure all documentation and schematics meet required internal quality and engineering standards.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 2+ years of professional experience in a similar electrical design/drafting role (open to senior candidates with 15+ years).
- Deep expertise in AutoCAD Electrical (minimum 2+ years). Proficiency in EPLAN is highly desired. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Professional experience gained from a large automotive company or a reputable engineering firm.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
- Comfort operating in a high-intensity environment with an expectation of 45–55 hours per week.
