About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in Autonomous and Electric Vehicle Manufacturing, is looking for a motivated Electrical Engineer, Automation to join their MADE team (Manufacturing, Automation, Development, Engineering). This project involves driving the design and development of new automation equipment and manufacturing lines, creating custom schematics for electrical panels, field wiring, and plumbing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute troubleshooting and commissioning. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Participate in the initial equipment conceptual development phase and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, preferred component selection, and lead-time limitations while working with cross functional teams.
- Perform sizing calculations (FLA, SCCR, etc.) for power distribution panels.
- Design, create, and implement electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics (in EPLAN) as per national codes and standards (UL508A, NFPA79, NEC, etc.) including electrical panel and field design.
- Design and implement reliable safety controls systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment as per national codes and standards (OSHA and ISO).
- Select and size electrical and electromechanical components (servos, sensors, and valve manifolds, etc.).
- Transform concept layouts/designs into fabrication & installation drawings.
- Manage BOMs and the fabrication of electrical cabinets, field wiring, pneumatics, and fluid plumbing, and participate in the equipment commissioning phase.
- Support the goal of continuous improvement, and incorporate new techniques into the design and build processes for new equipment.
- Modify existing equipment to support the manufacturing of our products.
- Work with internal and external vendors on projects, supporting project management and standard adherence (domestic and international travel up to 15%).
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience. (Open to a range of experience)
- Deep expertise in designing electrical schematics for panels and field wiring in AutoCAD or EPLAN (Preferred), in-depth knowledge of electrical design compliancy for national codes and standards (UL508A, NFPA79, NEC, etc.), and proficiency in the sizing and selection of components (servos, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, etc.). This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Experience with hands-on working on the design and build of industrial automation equipment.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
- Degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent experience.
