Electrical Engineering Technician

Join a cutting-edge team at the forefront of autonomous vehicle technology as an Electrical Engineering Technician. In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in building, maintaining, and optimizing the sensor emulation and test infrastructure that ensures our engineering teams can validate hardware and software with precision. Your expertise will directly impact the development and deployment of autonomous systems, working hands-on with hardware, wiring harnesses, and test benches in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and test wiring harnesses for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test benches and rack assemblies, translating schematics into reliable, automotive-grade connections with attention to signal integrity and durability.
  • Rack, wire, and organize test assets including compute nodes, network equipment, and power supplies, ensuring a clean and efficient lab layout.
  • Manage daily lab operations—stocking parts, maintaining inventory, organizing tools, and enforcing safety protocols such as ESD and electrical safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, diagnose faults in cables, power supplies, and connections, and collaborate with test engineers to reproduce and resolve system failures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including wiring diagrams, BOMs, rack layouts, and revision histories to support ongoing projects and audits.

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a lab, bench technician, or data center environment working with hardware.
  • Associate’s degree or vocational/technical certification in electronics or electromechanical technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven track record in wiring harness design and assembly, including creating schematics and pinout diagrams, selecting connectors, and crimping automotive-grade connectors such as Molex, Amphenol, or Rosenberger.
  • Experience racking, cabling servers, and managing structured cabling systems independently.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, torque tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and safe electrical practices, including ESD handling.
  • Ability to lift and handle equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with automotive ECUs, embedded systems, or HIL test benches.
  • Skilled in SMT rework (0402, 0201 BGA), and harness workmanship standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620 or similar).
  • Familiarity with CAD tools like SolidWorks or CATIA for harness design and layout.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash) and Linux command-line proficiency for system verification and automation tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Technical training or certifications in electronics or related fields.
  • Prior experience working with automotive hardware, electronic control units, or test automation environments.

Other Requirements:

  • Onsite presence in Foster City, CA.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain an organized, safe, and efficient lab environment.
  • Willingness to handle physical tasks, including moving equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

This role offers a fascinating opportunity to contribute to innovative autonomous vehicle development, leveraging your technical expertise in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
