About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in the autonomous vehicle industry, is looking for a skilled Endpoint Administrator (Linux) to join their team for a 6+ month engagement. This project involves supporting the rollout and ongoing maintenance of their Linux desktop fleet. The role is a critical part of the Endpoint Engineering team, focused on configuration management, automation, and fleet operations to ensure physical and virtual endpoints are secure, reliable, and consistent at scale. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Performing Linux system installation, configuration, patching, and ongoing maintenance across physical and virtual desktops.
- Implementing and maintaining SaltStack configurations to enforce system baselines and automate repeatable tasks.
- Contributing to sprint-based engineering efforts focused on endpoint reliability, compliance, and lifecycle management.
- Supporting incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across a large fleet of Linux systems.
- Collaborating with engineers and IT support teams to ensure endpoint compliance and functionality.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 6+ years of experience supporting large-scale Linux desktop environments in production settings.
- Deep expertise in Ubuntu/Debian Linux, including imaging, patching, and support.
- Proficient in configuration management tools such as SaltStack, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible.
- Experience writing scripts in Bash and/or Python to automate common system tasks.
- Familiarity with sprint-based or agile project work, and experience with tools like Jira for task and incident tracking.
- Clear communicator with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Experience supporting virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments and familiarity with VMware-based VDI platforms and management tools is a plus.
- Must be local to the Bay Area and able to work onsite at Foster City HQ at least 3 days per week.
