As a Firmware Validation Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring the reliability, quality, and performance of cutting-edge automotive infotainment and streaming features, playing a critical part in shaping the future of autonomous vehicles.
What You’ll Do:
- Execute manual and exploratory testing for audio streaming and connectivity features both in the lab and in-vehicle environments.
- Develop, expand, and maintain comprehensive test content, closing coverage gaps to guarantee thorough validation.
- Reproduce and analyze defects using advanced logging tools like Wireshark, DLT, ADB, and HCI/Bluetooth traces to identify root causes.
- Lead first-line triage for field-reported issues, collaborating with fleet support and firmware teams to drive problems to resolution.
- Manage defect lifecycles end-to-end within JIRA, ensuring clear documentation, accountability, and follow-up.
- Maintain and calibrate test benches, diagnostic rigs, and in-vehicle test setups to ensure optimal performance and readiness.
- Partner effectively with firmware developers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to align on feature delivery and quality metrics.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of hands-on validation or QA experience with firmware or embedded systems.
- Proven ability to write and execute detailed test plans and cases, identifying and closing coverage gaps.
- In-depth validation experience with connectivity domains such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE/5G, GNSS, or vehicle networking.
- Strong troubleshooting skills: logs analysis (Wireshark, DLT, ADB), defect reproduction, and root cause diagnosis.
- Scripting skills in Python for automation and log parsing; comfortable working on Linux/Ubuntu platforms.
- Solid experience with defect management tools like JIRA and Agile development processes.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with in-cabin entertainment systems or media casting frameworks.
- Bluetooth stack validation expertise, including pairing, interop, and media profiles like A2DP, HFP, AVRCP.
- Knowledge of wireless communication technologies and protocols.
- Exposure to autonomous vehicle or robotaxi fleet environments.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of direct validation experience within embedded/firmware projects, preferably in automotive or connected vehicle sectors.
Other Requirements:
- This position is onsite in Foster City, CA (5 days/week).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with precision.
- Familiarity with field deployment challenges and diagnostics is highly valued.
