Functional Safety Consultant – Semiconductor / Silicon
Overview
Support the development and certification of automotive-grade semiconductor products in a high-impact Functional Safety consulting role. You will work within a silicon development environment to help integrate Functional Safety throughout the product lifecycle and drive semiconductor designs toward ASIL-B certification. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on professional with direct semiconductor- or silicon-level experience—not exclusively vehicle- or system-level Functional Safety expertise.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of directly relevant Functional Safety experience
- Demonstrated Functional Safety experience within a semiconductor or silicon development environment
- Strong knowledge of ISO 26262
- Experience applying ASIL requirements, specifically ASIL-B
- Hands-on experience performing or leading:
- FMEDA analysis
- FMEA analysis
- HARA analysis
- Understanding of AEC-Q100 and automotive semiconductor qualification and reliability requirements
- Knowledge of ISO 21434 and automotive cybersecurity concepts
- Experience supporting semiconductor products through Functional Safety certification
- Ability to collaborate effectively with silicon design and engineering teams
- Strong documentation and technical analysis skills
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Approximately 10+ years of Functional Safety experience
- Previous experience completing certification with TÜV or exida
- Extensive experience with automotive-grade semiconductor development
- Experience owning or leading Functional Safety activities through certification
- Experience driving Functional Safety requirements through the silicon development lifecycle
Preferred Education and Experience
A specific educational background has not been provided for this position. Candidates should bring at least 5 years of directly relevant Functional Safety experience in a semiconductor or silicon development environment, with approximately 10+ years preferred.
Other Requirements
- Location: San Jose, CA preferred; remote work may be considered for the right candidate
- Engagement: Contract position with an expected duration of 6+ months
- Must have semiconductor- or silicon-level Functional Safety experience; candidates with experience exclusively at the vehicle or system level will not meet the technical requirements for this role
- Must be able to support Functional Safety activities and certification documentation throughout the silicon development lifecycle
