Ignition SCADA Developer
Overview
Build the monitoring and control layer that supports the reliable operation of high-density AI data center infrastructure. As an Ignition SCADA Developer, you’ll design, develop, and maintain applications that provide real-time visibility into electrical power, cooling, and mechanical systems across complex, mission-critical sites.
This hands-on engineering role involves transforming data from PLCs, meters, coolant distribution units, chillers, switchgear, and other field devices into dependable dashboards, alarms, historical records, and integrations. Your work will help operators make informed decisions, respond to critical conditions, and keep essential infrastructure running reliably.
Required Skills
- 5–7 years of experience in industrial automation, SCADA, or controls engineering.
- At least 3 years of hands-on Ignition development experience, including one large, end-to-end deployment.
- Strong experience with Ignition Perspective, tag modeling, UDTs, alarming, alarm pipelines, and Tag Historian.
- Experience integrating industrial systems using Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet, OPC UA, and MQTT.
- Proficiency with Python/Jython scripting and SQL queries.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Experience configuring and supporting Ignition gateway architecture, including redundancy, Gateway Network, Enterprise Administration Module, backups, and upgrades.
- Ability to design and secure custom APIs through Ignition’s Webdev module or an equivalent technology.
- Understanding of OT security practices, including network segmentation, role-based access, and audit logging.
- Knowledge of OT networking concepts, including VLANs, firewalls, IP addressing, and secure remote access.
- Ability to read electrical one-line diagrams, mechanical schematics, and controls sequences of operation.
- Experience with PLCs or controllers from vendors such as Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, or Johnson Controls.
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues and participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical monitoring systems.
- Experience using Git and documented change-management processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills when collaborating with engineers, contractors, and operations teams.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Inductive Automation Ignition Core or Gold certification.
- Experience working in mission-critical environments such as data centers, utilities, or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with liquid cooling systems, including coolant distribution units and rear-door heat exchangers.
- Experience with high-density rack power systems.
- Knowledge of Ignition Edge, MQTT Sparkplug B, or Unified Namespace architectures.
- Exposure to DCIM platforms and IT observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Kafka.
- Knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443, ISA-18.2 alarm management, or ISA-101 HMI design standards.
- Experience with containerized or infrastructure-as-code deployments of Ignition gateways.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or Computer Engineering preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- 5–7 years of industrial automation, SCADA, or controls engineering experience.
- 3+ years of professional Ignition development experience.
Other Requirements
- Design, build, and maintain Ignition applications for electrical power monitoring, building management, and liquid cooling systems.
- Create reusable templates, UDTs, and tag structures to support consistent deployment across new sites.
- Configure alarms, alarm pipelines, notifications, historical data pipelines, and custom APIs.
- Support commissioning and integrated systems testing at new sites in collaboration with controls contractors, MEP engineers, and site operations teams.
- Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical monitoring systems.
- The work arrangement—remote or onsite—and travel requirements were not specified in the provided job details.
