Title:  Jira Administrator
Job Type:  Contract
Contract Length:  6 months
Target Start Date:  ASAP
Work Location/Structure:  Remote - Prefers Sunnyvale, NJ or Texas (EST core overlap Noon to 5 PM)

About the Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in the technology industry, is looking for a skilled Jira Administrator  to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This project involves managing, maintaining, and enhancing core Jira and Confluence instances, specifically focusing on internal workflows for engineering and communications with data center technicians. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Request Backlog Management and Fulfillment:  Design, implement, and rigorously test new and modified Jira workflows, including managing statuses, transitions, screens, and conditional logic to meet evolving business requirements. Create, manage, and optimize Jira issue screens, custom fields, and associated forms (especially for Jira Service Management requests). Administer user permissions, manage group access, and maintain security schemes across all Jira projects and Confluence spaces to ensure data integrity and compliance. Perform day-to-day configuration tasks, including adding, modifying, or retiring project components, versions, issue types, link types, and other core system configurations.
  • Platform Maintenance and Technical Debt Reduction:  Proactively create, update, and maintain comprehensive system documentation, particularly for complex Jira workflows, integrations, and administration procedures, ensuring this knowledge is housed in Confluence. Identify, analyze, and execute plans to reduce technical debt, such as simplifying overly complex workflows, auditing and removing unused schemes/fields, and optimizing configurations for performance. Perform regular system health checks, monitor performance, review error logs, and provide Tier 2/3 administrative support for complex, user-reported configuration issues.
  • Usage Analysis and Optimization:  Analyze Jira usage data, including project utilization, workflow effectiveness, and technical performance metrics, to provide insights to stakeholders. Provide data-driven recommendations to improve platform efficiency, streamline processes, enhance user experience, and drive better feature adoption across the organization.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
  • Proven experience as a Jira and Confluence Administrator, or equivalent role.
  • Deep expertise in configuring complex Jira workflows, permission schemes, and security levels. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
  • Strong understanding of Jira Service Management (JSM) request types, forms, and queues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
  • Experience with SQL or Jira Query Language (JQL) for advanced reporting and data analysis. Experience with Asana is a strong bonus.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with an ability to clearly document complex configurations in Confluence.
Preferred (Nice to Have) Qualifications:
  • Experience with common Atlassian Marketplace apps (e.g., ScriptRunner, Tempo, Portfolio/Advanced Roadmaps).
  • Familiarity with system integrations via REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of server, Data Center, or Cloud environments (depending on your instance type).
