About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in autonomous mobility, is looking for a skilled Model Maker Technician to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This project involves creating high-quality prototypes and first articles to support rapid iteration and precision in vehicle development. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- CNC Operation and Setup: Setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.) to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Fabrication: Performing metalwork—including milling, turning, drilling, shearing, bending, and welding—to create prototypes and components.
- Material Management: Working with composites, additive manufacturing (3D printing), and other advanced materials to support prototyping needs.
- Quality Assurance: Inspecting parts for accuracy, finish, and adherence to blueprints or CAD models using precision measuring tools.
- Collaboration: Partnering with engineers, designers, and fabricators to troubleshoot issues, optimize workflows, and contribute to the continuous improvement of prototyping capabilities.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 2+ years of experience as a Model Maker, Fabricator, Machinist, or CNC Operator in a prototyping or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
- Ability to use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.) for quality control.
- Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles.
- Familiarity with shop safety protocols and best practices for material handling.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot fabrication and machining issues.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new technologies.
- A degree in industrial design, engineering, or similar.
- Knowledge of documentation tools like Jira or Confluence.
- Familiarity with shop management and process optimization.
