About the Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in autonomous mobility, is looking for a skilled Model Maker Technician  to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This project involves creating high-quality prototypes and first articles to support rapid iteration and precision in vehicle development. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and deliver results quickly.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
  • CNC Operation and Setup: Setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.) to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Fabrication: Performing metalwork—including milling, turning, drilling, shearing, bending, and welding—to create prototypes and components.
  • Material Management: Working with composites, additive manufacturing (3D printing), and other advanced materials to support prototyping needs.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspecting parts for accuracy, finish, and adherence to blueprints or CAD models using precision measuring tools.
  • Collaboration: Partnering with engineers, designers, and fabricators to troubleshoot issues, optimize workflows, and contribute to the continuous improvement of prototyping capabilities.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 2+ years of experience as a Model Maker, Fabricator, Machinist, or CNC Operator in a prototyping or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.) for quality control.
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles.
  • Familiarity with shop safety protocols and best practices for material handling.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot fabrication and machining issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new technologies.
Nice to Have:
  • A degree in industrial design, engineering, or similar.
  • Knowledge of documentation tools like Jira or Confluence.
  • Familiarity with shop management and process optimization.
W2 only (No C2C or 1099 contractors)
