Job Type: Contract
Contract Length: 6 months
Target Start Date: Mid-late January
Work Location/Structure: On-site (5 days a week) in Worcester
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in Higher Education, is looking for a skilled Network Engineer to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This project involves providing immediate, hands-on networking support to campus-wide operations, specifically to cover an internal resource reassignment for a critical firewall reimplementation project. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Triage and resolve escalated network-related tickets from the Service Desk.
- Perform hands-on work including switch replacements and equipment installs, and methodically troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity issues across campus.
- Assist the team with maintenance and support of Juniper and Aruba switches and wireless infrastructure.
- Engage directly with faculty, staff, and students to understand and address their underlying networking needs (not just surface requests).
- Support new labs, research initiatives, and campus network changes, while documenting new learnings and processes.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 1+ years of experience in a technical support or similar role, and is an eager, curious self-starter looking to take the next step in their career.
- Deep expertise in solid networking fundamentals (DHCP/DORA, IP addressing, Wi-Fi security basics), and hands-on comfort with physical hardware (switches, cabling, network closets). This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals, with strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills.
- Experience with Juniper or Aruba networking equipment (associate-level experience is sufficient), and a comfort level working in an environment with limited documentation.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team and engage directly with users and teammates. (Higher education IT experience is a plus).
