We’re seeking an exceptional SEC Director to oversee and strengthen our client’s SEC reporting function, ensuring flawless compliance and insightful disclosures in a collaborative, friendly culture. This hybrid role based in San Mateo offers an exciting opportunity to influence strategic financial reporting and advance your leadership in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the company’s SEC reporting, including preparation, review, and filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and proxy statements.
  • Own the quarterly and annual reporting calendar, coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee financial statement disclosures, including MD&A, footnotes, XBRL, and executive compensation.
  • Drive technical accounting activities, researching and documenting complex issues, especially around equity compensation and new SEC requirements.
  • Monitor emerging accounting standards and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on reporting and policies.
  • Partner with senior management, legal, IR, HR, and other departments on disclosure and financial reporting matters.
  • Lead external audit and SOX activities, maintaining strong internal controls.
  • Mentor and develop the SEC team, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years’ progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and SEC reporting expertise with a listed company.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and financial disclosure requirements.
  • Proven leadership in managing SEC reporting processes, technical accounting research, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong project management, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Workiva, NetSuite, and eTrade systems is highly preferred.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • M&A experience or exposure.
  • Experience leading international accounting teams, including India-based managers.
  • Background in SaaS or technology sectors.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive experience in SEC reporting roles, particularly within publicly traded companies.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams, implementing improvements, and navigating complex regulatory environments.

Other Requirements:

  • Hybrid work model requiring onsite presence in San Mateo on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • No travel requirements beyond local or occasional national needs.
  • Ability to thrive in a friendly, personality-driven culture that values supportiveness and collaboration.
