Job Type: Contract (Contract-to-Hire)
Contract Length: 6+ months
Pay Range: $70-85/hr
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Fully Remote (Strong preference for Boston, MA area candidates)
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in EdTech and SaaS, is looking for a skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to join their expanding DevOps group for a 6+ month contract-to-hire engagement. This is a chance to contribute to the evolution of the AWS cloud infrastructure supporting their award-winning i-Ready SaaS application, which serves a third of the nation’s K–8 students. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and advance "shift left" capabilities in Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
- Build, operate, scale, and troubleshoot the SaaS infrastructure in an Agile environment.
- Write tools for systems and infrastructure automation.
- Enhance monitoring tools, build infrastructure, and source code management, ensuring seamless integration between infrastructure and applications.
- Support other teams' build and infrastructure needs and participate in an on-call rotation to provide operations coverage.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 6+ years of DevOps experience.
- Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Puppet or Chef/Ansible/Salt) and Terraform (or CloudFormation). This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Extensive experience with AWS Cloud technologies (e.g., EC2, RDS, CloudFront, CloudWatch, DynamoDB) and container orchestrators like ECS.
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools and processes, including Git, Jenkins, and Nexus.
- Experience with languages such as Python/Go and technologies including MySQL, Java/Tomcat/Apache, and Splunk for systems monitoring/management.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Experience operating a 24/7 production web application.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to lead and provide mentorship to team members.
