Senior Manager, SAP Project Accounting
Join a dynamic organization as a Senior Manager leading the strategic design, implementation, and ongoing management of SAP Project Accounting within a cutting-edge SAP S/4HANA environment. This pivotal role is suited for a hands-on professional who thrives on configuring complex project accounting systems, establishing scalable frameworks, and driving automation to enhance financial processes for internal projects. As a key member of the Corporate Controllership team, you will influence how internal project costs are tracked, valued, and closed, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and supporting strategic decision-making.
What You Will Do:
- Lead the design and operation of SAP Project Accounting, including project structures, WBS, cost collection, and settlement procedures.
- Establish governance and best practices for tracking and managing internal projects within SAP.
- Partner with cross-functional teams—FP&A, Project Owners, IT, Procurement, Fixed Assets—to ensure accurate project cost capture and classification.
- Oversee accounting activities during month-end, including accruals, capitalization, project close, and financial reconciliations.
- Develop and implement policies, controls, and reporting analytics to ensure transparent, automated, and consistent project accounting processes.
- Serve as the SAP Project Accounting subject matter expert, guiding system configuration, testing, and user training.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including automation opportunities and process efficiencies.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with deep expertise in SAP S/4HANA, particularly SAP Project System (PS), Controlling (CO), FI, and Fixed Assets modules.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, or operating project accounting frameworks within SAP.
- Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially related to internal project costs, capitalization, and expense recognition.
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot SAP systems, working closely with technical teams.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative approach to working across finance, IT, and operational teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional certification (CPA or equivalent) preferred.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience leading SAP S/4HANA implementations or finance transformation projects.
- Knowledge of related SAP modules such as MM or SD that may interface with project accounting.
- Experience with automation technologies and continuous process improvement.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including cross-functional project leadership.
- Hands-on experience in fast-paced, technology-driven environments, preferably within manufacturing or technology sectors.
Other Requirements:
- This role is a hybrid work arrangement, requiring 2-3 days in the office in the South Bay area.
- The position may involve some travel for project or system deployment activities.
- Candidates must be prepared to work closely with finance, IT, and project teams to ensure seamless implementation and ongoing support of SAP project accounting processes.
