Contract Length:  6+ months (Part-time)
Target Start Date:  ASAP
Work Location/Structure:  Hybrid (New York, NY, San Francisco, CA, or Portland, OR) - 20-25 hours a week

About the Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in the energy and environmental markets, is looking for a skilled  Senior Technical Project Manager  to join their team for a 6+ month engagement. This project involves replacing a home-grown platform with an enterprise-grade Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system, specifically focusing on ION implementation. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams to drive the ETRM roadmap through successful delivery, ensuring alignment with trading strategies, market operations, and analytics goals.
  • Leading the full implementation lifecycle of the ETRM platform (e.g., ION, Endur, Allegro), integrating it with internal systems, trading desks, data warehouses, and compliance frameworks.
  • Translating complex trading workflows into actionable project plans and overseeing ETRM-related architecture, trade capture, settlement, and reporting.
  • Leading and overseeing a portfolio of large-scale, enterprise-wide projects such as ETRM implementation, Climate Portal, Supplier REach, and Marketplace, ensuring the seamless integration of complex back-end systems, advanced data management, and comprehensive trading operations.
  • Developing and implementing strategic project plans, aligning with organizational goals and driving key business initiatives.
  • Directing the execution of multiple, high-impact projects, managing interdependencies and ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Overseeing the development of comprehensive project scope plans, creating detailed Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) to manage complex projects efficiently.
  • Establishing and maintaining robust communication channels, delivering clear, concise, and impactful updates to executive leadership and other high-level stakeholders.
  • Leading, managing, and influencing customer segments and technology decisions, and external entity interactions.
  • Utilizing expert-level knowledge in project management methodologies, including waterfall, agile, and hybrid approaches, to drive project success and organizational efficiency.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives, streamlining and optimizing cross-organizational processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Acting as a mentor and coach to other project managers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 7+ years of project management experience, including senior roles or leadership positions managing software projects involving ETRM, CTRM, or other trading platforms (ION, Endur, Allegro, etc.).
  • Deep expertise in ETRM and ION implementation experience. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management processes and principles; skilled at strategic communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting to resolve complex issues.
  • Advanced expertise with MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Jira, Asana, and/or other project management tools.
  • Proficient with waterfall, agile, and hybrid methodologies.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive high-level alignment across diverse groups.
  • Expertise in facilitating end-user adoption and ensuring proficiency with new systems and applications across departments.
  • Advanced technical skills in systems and software development processes; ability to quickly master and apply new technologies strategically.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business operations for a global corporation, with strong expertise in financial management and B2B sales processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences, including the ability to produce high-quality reports, presentations, and documentation.
  • Significant experience in developing requirements, formulating business metrics for reporting, and driving data-informed decisions.
  • Experience with the "carbon zero" ION module is a very nice to have.
