Join the Cutting Edge of Autonomous Vehicles as a Software Engineer, Autonomy Behavior ML Data Optimization Team
Are you passionate about leveraging data to drive innovation in autonomous driving? Do you thrive in dynamic, data-intensive environments and want to make a tangible impact on the future of mobility? We’re seeking a talented Software Engineer to join the Autonomy Behavior ML Data Optimization team at a leading autonomous vehicle company. In this role, you will build and optimize scalable data pipelines that empower teams to discover, curate, and validate driving scenarios critical for safe and reliable AV operation.
Overview:
As a Software Engineer on this pioneering team, you will develop robust data infrastructure and tools that process large-scale driving data, enabling rapid insights and scenario discovery. Your work will directly influence the development of models forecasting road agent behavior, contributing to safer, smarter autonomous vehicles. This position offers a unique opportunity to work across the data stack—from backend services and distributed processing to frontend UI enhancements—ensuring seamless data pipelines and intuitive interfaces for internal stakeholders.
Required Skills:
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, focusing on data processing and pipeline engineering
- Proven expertise designing, building, and optimizing distributed data pipelines (ETL/ELT) using tools like Spark, Databricks, AWS EMR, AWS Batch, or Ray Core/Data
- Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience developing production-grade data pipelines and web services (FastAPI, Uvicorn, or similar frameworks)
- Familiarity with data visualization dashboards, SQL, and large-scale data manipulation (PySpark/Scala preferred)
- Experience orchestrating workflows with tools like Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster
- Knowledge of vector similarity search and indexing technologies (FAISS, Annoy, ScaNN, Milvus)
- Hands-on experience working with cloud storage (AWS S3), compute (EC2), and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance tuning
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks, especially React.js, for building data-driven web interfaces
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Nice to Have Skills:
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts, especially embeddings, clustering, and similarity search
- Experience with ML model serving infrastructure (TensorFlow Serving, TorchServe, Triton, RayServe)
- Knowledge of Large Language Model (LLM) integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or natural language interfaces
- Experience developing and operating complex production Airflow DAGs
- Exposure to data cataloging, metadata management, and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
- Background in autonomous vehicle data, including logs, telemetry, or driving scenarios
- CI/CD pipelines development and experience with Bazel build systems
- Full-stack development experience, owning applications end-to-end, including admin panels and UIs
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
- 3+ years of experience in data infrastructure, backend development, or similar roles within tech-forward organizations
- Passion for autonomous vehicles, robotics, or related domains
Other Requirements:
- Location: Onsite in Foster City, CA (5 days in office)
- Availability to start ASAP
- W2 employment status only
- This role involves working with large-scale distributed data and may require collaboration with cross-functional teams across various disciplines
If you are excited about building data pipelines and processing systems that directly accelerate safe autonomous driving, enjoy working with large-scale distributed data infrastructure, and want to make a measurable impact on how a world-class AV company discovers and understands driving scenarios, this role is for you.
