Tax Contractor (Indirect and International Tax) – Part Time

Overview

A fast-growing, global SaaS organization is seeking an experienced, hands-on Tax Contractor to strengthen its tax operations during an important period of growth. This role will focus primarily on indirect tax—including sales and use tax, VAT, and GST exposure—while also supporting international tax matters, year-end compliance, audit preparation, and related tax projects.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, analyzing transaction-level data, coordinating external advisors, and turning complex tax considerations into practical next steps. This is an opportunity to help establish scalable tax processes, address priority exposure areas, and prepare the organization for continued expansion.

Part-time work is preferred, with flexible scheduling based on project needs and an estimated average of approximately 20 hours per week. Workload is expected to be higher early in the engagement and taper as key projects stabilize. Candidates available for full-time hours may also be considered.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience at the Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager level.
  • Strong experience with indirect tax, including:
  • Sales and use tax
  • VAT
  • GST
  • Tax registrations
  • Filings and reconciliations
  • Exemption certificate management
  • Tax notices
  • Substantial international tax experience, including the ability to assess cross-border tax exposure and coordinate country-specific registration requirements.
  • Experience supporting year-end tax compliance and tax-related audit requests.
  • Ability to review tax exposure, develop prioritized action plans, and drive execution.
  • Experience working with external tax advisors and translating recommendations into actionable next steps.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working directly with transaction-level data and financial systems.
  • Ability to work independently while an internal tax function is being established.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects on a flexible schedule.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to support customer contract and order form reviews for tax considerations, including tax allocation, gross-up and withholding language, and invoicing requirements.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience supporting a growing technology or SaaS organization with international operations.
  • Familiarity with indirect tax considerations in customer contracts and order forms.
  • Experience supporting refund claims, voluntary disclosures, or other tax remediation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Anrok, QuickBooks Online, Rillet, and Stripe.
  • Experience with permanent establishment, withholding tax, and cross-border structuring matters.
  • Experience overseeing outsourced R&D tax and transfer pricing projects.
  • Experience creating tax documentation, calendars, and processes that can be transitioned to a permanent tax leader.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional tax certification or advanced tax education is beneficial but not required.
  • Manager- or Senior Manager-level tax experience with a demonstrated focus on indirect and international tax.
  • Experience supporting global operations, year-end tax work, audit preparation, and external tax providers.

Other Requirements

  • Schedule: Part-time preferred, with flexible scheduling based on project needs and approximately 20 hours per week on average.
  • Full-time consideration: Candidates available for full-time hours may also be considered. Applicants should indicate whether they prefer part-time or full-time work, or are available for only one option.
  • Engagement duration: Part-time work is expected to extend through February, while a full-time engagement is expected to last approximately 1–2 months. Either arrangement may extend based on project needs.
  • Availability: Workload is expected to be higher during the initial exposure assessment, registration coordination, year-end tax work, and audit preparation phases.
  • Systems: The role will involve working within finance, billing, and tax systems. The organization is transitioning from QuickBooks Online to Rillet, and historical information may require access to QuickBooks Online.
  • Year-end scheduling: Work must be planned around an organizational closure from December 21 through January 3.
  • Work arrangement: Remote or onsite status was not specified in the provided role details.
