Start Date: ASAP
Location: Onsite in Foster City, CA or San Diego, CA (5 days in office)
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry, is looking for a skilled Test Engineer to join their Autonomous Vehicle Operations Software QA team for a 6-month engagement. This project focuses on the testing, integration, and monitoring of "CTM," a mission-critical backend service responsible for coordinating operational tasks and tickets across their autonomous vehicle fleet. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running, collaborate effectively with backend engineers and operations teams, and ensure the reliability of complex, large-scale systems.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- API Testing & Automation: Develop, maintain, and expand Playwright-based API integration tests (using TypeScript) to enhance regression coverage across critical task, ticket, notification, and scheduling workflows.
- Manual Validation: Perform manual API testing for new features, releases, hotfixes, and pre-merge validations to ensure system integrity.
- Monitoring & Triage: Monitor and triage synthetic test failures running on scheduled cycles; identify, reproduce, and verify bugs across Dev, Staging, and Production environments.
- Release Readiness: Provide QA sign-off for releases, ensure all validation activities meet strict quality standards, and track issues to closure in Jira and TestRail.
- Infrastructure Improvement: Contribute to ongoing enhancements in test infrastructure, including testcontainer setups, cleanup patterns, and CI pipeline optimizations (Bazel/Buildkite).
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 1–3 years of experience as a QA/Test Engineer with proven skills in testing large-scale, complex backend services.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Solid experience with API testing (REST) and related tools (e.g., Postman, curl, or programmatic HTTP clients).
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
- (Bonus) Familiarity with Grafana, Docker, testcontainers, event-driven systems, WebSockets, or build systems like Bazel is a significant plus.
