Job Type: Contract
Contract Length: 6 months
Pay Range: $85 - $90/hr
Start Date: 6/29
Location: Onsite - Foster City, CA
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in the autonomous vehicle and robotics industry, is looking for a skilled User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This project involves developing the key human-machine interfaces (HMI) that riders use to interact with a purpose-built, fully autonomous vehicle, including hardware for user authentication, ingress access, communication, and cabin/occupant monitoring. You will be challenged to rethink hardware design and will collaborate with world-class engineers across AI, robotics, machine learning, controls, and more. This is a high-impact role that offers the chance to manifest your creativity and make a big difference in the final product.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Hands-On Issue Resolution: Be hands-on in investigating issues whenever and wherever they occur to resolve problems, drive design updates, and enable scale.
- Component Development & Supplier Management: Specify electrical component and system requirements and lead engineering discussions and development with external suppliers, including drawing reviews, requirement validation, and change request documentation.
- Production Coordination: Coordinate supplier tooling and production to meet critical vehicle milestones.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with mechanical, systems, firmware, and software engineering teams as well as system operators to iterate on existing designs and develop future solutions.
- Root Cause Analysis & Validation: Conduct root cause analysis during the development, validation, build, and deployment phases. Support the development and execution of system and component-level validation test plans.
- Manufacturing Support: Work with manufacturing and quality engineers to mature components and support vehicle build, bring-up, and test activities.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 5-10 years of experience in electrical component/system design and troubleshooting with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience taking a part or assembly from concept through production, working with external suppliers, and managing deliverables for multiple projects.
- Expertise in Automotive (CAN bus, automotive Ethernet, A2B, and other automotive networks), aerospace, or safety-critical industry experience. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Experience with on-board digital serial interfaces such as SPI, UART, I2C, and I2S.
- Experience with electrical and EMI/EMI testing.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
- Travel within the Bay Area, as well as international travel is required.
- Knowledge of automotive functional safety (ISO26262) standards.
- Firmware/Software experience (managing/developing/testing) including functional knowledge of python, c/c++, and other scripting languages.
- Experience with chassis and/or electromechanical systems.
- Experience with high speed bus protocols such as PCIe, Display Port, and HDMI.
- Experience using Altium, 3DX, Catia V5/V6, or similar tools.
