Job Opportunity: Controller (FinTech Startup)

Our client in the fintech space , a high-growth startup, is looking for a Controller . This is a fully remote position designed for a technical accounting leader who thrives on building institutional rigor within a fast-paced environment.

As the ultimate GAAP gatekeeper, you will own the integrity of the financial statements and lead the evolution of the accounting function as the company scales.

The Role at a Glance

You will take full ownership of the company’s financial reporting, exercising independent judgment and raising risks proactively. This role requires a blend of "startup scrappiness" and "institutional rigor"—strengthening internal controls and automating processes without hindering business velocity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Close: Own the monthly and annual close process, prepare consolidated U.S. GAAP financial statements, and drive automation to improve efficiency.

  • Technical Accounting Authority: Serve as the primary expert on complex areas including:

    • Lending activities ( ASC 310 ) and CECL methodology.

    • Revenue recognition ( ASC 606 ).

    • Equity and stock-based compensation ( ASC 718 ).

  • Audit & Compliance: Lead the annual financial statement audit from planning to issuance and oversee all tax compliance (Federal, State, Sales Tax, 1099s) via external advisors.

  • Controls & Treasury: Maintain internal controls, oversee AP/Payroll/Treasury, and support debt facility reporting and covenant compliance.

What You’ll Need

  • Experience: 7+ years of accounting experience, including a significant tenure at a Big 4 firm.

  • Credentials: CPA required.
  • Industry Expertise: Proven experience in fintech, lending , or highly regulated environments.

  • Technical Proficiency: Direct exposure to CECL, loan accounting, revenue recognition, and multi-entity consolidations. (Experience with whole loan sale accounting is a major bonus).

  • Mindset: A high degree of ownership, comfortable with large data sets, and the ability to manage a team while remaining hands-on.

Why This Role?

This is a pivotal hire for a company at an inflection point. You will partner directly with Financial Systems, Strategic Finance, and Capital Markets to ensure the accounting infrastructure is accurate, defensible, and ready for the next stage of growth.
