Title:  Design Technology Manager
Job Type:  Full-Time / Permanent
Pay Range:  $125,000 – $165,000/year
Start Date:  ASAP
Location:  Hybrid (San Francisco, San Jose, or Sacramento – ideally 3 days in-office per week)

About the Opportunity:

Our client, a premier mid-sized architecture and interior design firm celebrated for its "people-first" culture and outstanding design portfolio, is seeking a strategically minded Design Technology Manager. In this role, you will champion the firm’s digital practice strategy, piloting the implementation of emerging technologies across automation, visualization, and AI tools while overseeing macro-level BIM and Autodesk Revit governance. This is a highly visible position designed for a self-starting leader who can confidently advise executive leadership, map out technical roadmaps, and bridge the gap between technical complexity and studio adoption.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Proactive Tech Strategy: Evaluate industry trends (including emerging AI utilities) to determine what solutions are successfully rising to the top; build structured, monthly findings reports to guide firm leadership on strategic implementation.
  • BIM Governance & Collaboration: Manage high-level oversight of the firm's remote, contract BIM support desks; partner closely with studio project teams to establish consistent documentation and modeling standards.
  • Studio Evangelism: Act as an engaging champion for digital workflows, establishing a network of studio "ambassadors" and super-users to comfortably pilot new tools across project teams.
  • Cross-Department Alignment: Work alongside the internal IT department to evaluate technology licensing, system compatibility, and resource security.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of design technology leadership. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 10+ years of design technology leadership specifically within an A/E/C environment (architecture or engineering backgrounds are highly preferred).
  • Expert proficiency in Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Familiarity with design innovation infrastructure: Prior working exposure to computational design, automation frameworks, or visualization environments (such as Dynamo, Python, Rhino, or Grasshopper) to successfully assess their programmatic advantages.
  • Outstanding Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to work fluidly across a flat organizational structure, build high-trust relationships with studio principals, and clearly articulate complex technical value points.
  • A proactive, self-starter mindset who thrives with minimal hand-holding and actively advocates for strategic roadmaps.
