Job Type: Contract (W2 Only)
Contract Length: 4-5 months
Pay Range: ~$85-90/hr
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Hybrid - Oakland, CA
About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in FinTech, is looking for a skilled Fraud Detection Engineer to join their team for a 4-5 month engagement. This project involves translating complex business logic into maintainable rule code, optimizing database queries for the fraud detection engine, and contributing to the overall risk management strategy. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Strong Foundational Logic & Programming: Possessing robust basic programming skills and the ability to translate business requirements into clear, structured, and efficient rule logic (conditions and actions).
- Rules Engine & JVM Familiarity: Designing and implementing declarative rule writing, leveraging a basic understanding of Java for writing high-performance, efficient custom rule code.
- Database Querying Proficiency (SQL): Writing and optimizing complex SQL queries to effectively retrieve and shape the transactional data required by the fraud detection rules engine.
- Version Control Expertise (Git): Utilizing Git for collaborative development, including proficiency in branching, merging, and managing changes to the central rules repository.
- Analytical Domain Focus: Applying analytical aptitude and/or prior experience in developing logic for fraud detection, risk management, or similar domains.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years of experience in a similar engineering role.
- Deep expertise in Advanced SQL proficiency and Rules Engines (e.g., Drools knowledge is a plus). This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
- Experience with GitHub or Git and translating business logic into maintainable rule code (less of an analyst, more of a true engineer).
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
