About the Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in autonomous vehicles, is looking for a skilled  Mechanical Design Engineer - Sensor Integration NPI  to join their team for a 6 month engagement. This project involves integrating sensor modules for their autonomous vehicle, building and maintaining BOMs, and updating and improving designs for mechanical components and assemblies for custom sensor modules. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing existing Bill of Materials and overall design configurations using CAD and PLM tools.
  • Working closely with PLM team to release all design changes on multiple systems.
  • Working closely with manufacturing team to ensure a smooth rollout of a New Product.
  • Reviewing existing product design and proposing improvements to hardware and processes.
  • Leading root cause analysis for issues arising during initial build with cross functional teams.
  • Designing and building visual mockups, proofs of concept, fixtures to support manufacturing teams.
  • Managing design and development activities for multiple internal and external suppliers, towards the successful delivery of one or more electromechanical systems.
  • Collaborating with manufacturing engineers and quality personnel to ramp production processes and meet build objectives.
  • Maintaining BOMs, documenting and approving build processes, and supporting quality and cost engineering throughout the supply chain of your assemblies.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Deep expertise in CAD (CATia preferred or similar), PLM (Release experience, 3DX or similar), traditional launch & release experience, and traditional automotive experience. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design (Catia V5/V6 preferred), launching a product in high volume environments, electronic modules in an automotive context, die cast, injection molded, and sheet metal parts, knowledge of automotive sensing modalities, electromechanical behaviors, and integration challenges, and experience building products and assemblies through their entire lifecycle, from initial concept to production ramp.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
