About the Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in Technology/Data Storage, is looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer  to join their team for a 10-month engagement. This project involves designing, drafting, and validating precision mechanical components and assemblies, spanning the entire development lifecycle from conceptual design through manufacturing and quality assurance. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and documenting blueprints for precision mechanical devices, creating rough drafts, detailed designs, and final blueprints for client approval.
  • Collaborating closely with engineering teams to identify and implement necessary design alterations and improvements.
  • Working with quality assurance engineers to ensure the finished product is free of defects or abnormalities.
  • Applying HDD-specific knowledge, including contamination control, head-disk interface (HDI), and actuator dynamics, to all designs.
  • Supporting the product throughout the manufacturing and testing phases of the finished product.
Required Skills & Experience:

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
  • 7-10 years of experience in precision mechanical design, preferably in the HDD industry, with a proven track record delivering products.
  • Deep expertise in:
    • CAD: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks.
    • Manufacturing: Deep knowledge of processes including die casting, precision machining, MIM, and stamping.
    • GD&T: Advanced application for tight-tolerance assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals.
  • Experience with:
    • Analysis: Utilization of FEA tools, modal analysis, and shock/vibration simulation.
    • Metrology: CMM programming, optical measurement systems, and surface profilometry.
    • Working with materials like Aluminum alloys, stainless steel, and engineering polymers for HDD applications.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
