About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leader in the autonomous vehicle industry, is looking for a skilled Packaging Engineer to join their team for a 6-month engagement. This project involves designing, testing, and improving the packaging used to transport crucial components from the supplier base to the distribution center, as well as managing internal packaging within their manufacturing facilities. You will work closely with the Staff Packaging Engineer to standardize and develop processes for packaging design, validation, and continuous improvement, supporting the overall logistics and manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Design and Standardization: Work with the Staff Packaging Engineer in process design and standardization of packaging design for all components needed at manufacturing operations.
- Service Packaging Ownership: Fully develop and own all aspects of Service Packaging.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with the Vehicle Engineering team, Supplier Quality organization, and Logistics team to ensure packaging fulfills all internal customer needs.
- Vendor Management: Assist in vendor selection and management, and work with suppliers to improve packaging that enhances overall logistics cost performance (including parts quality, transportation, and inventory cost).
- Process Development: Assist in developing procedures and processes for packaging validation, continuous improvement, and supplier feedback.
- Equipment Implementation: Work with the Packaging Engineers and Logistics in implementing the equipment on the floor to support conveyance and hand off components to manufacturing operations.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and assist in developing KPIs related to packaging performance.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have:
- 4 to 6 years of experience in supply chain operations, logistics, or manufacturing.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent.
- Experience in the automotive industry. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert.
- Commanding knowledge of lean principles, distribution or fulfillment processes, and logistics business systems.
- Knowledge of CAD and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with automation development, robotics, and warehouse automation.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise status updates to the project team.
