Payroll Accountant
Contract

The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for the end-to-end execution of payroll operations and the integrity of related accounting functions. This role requires a subject matter expert in ADP Workforce Now who can manage standalone payroll processes within a fast-paced Pharma/Biotech environment. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between Human Resources and Finance, ensuring accurate labor costing and compliance with industry-specific regulatory standards.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Administration: Execute full-cycle, standalone payroll for a multi-state employee base, ensuring absolute accuracy in gross-to-net calculations, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions.

  • ADP System Ownership: Serve as the primary administrator for ADP Workforce Now, maintaining system configuration, enhancing workflows, and ensuring data synchronization between HRIS and Finance modules.

  • General Ledger Integration: Manage the monthly payroll close process, including the preparation of journal entries, labor distribution reports, and the reconciliation of payroll-related GL accounts.

  • Pharma/Biotech Compliance: Ensure all payroll activities comply with federal and state regulations, with specific attention to the nuances of life sciences compensation (e.g., clinical stipends, equity-based compensation, and specialized tax treatments).

  • System Integration & Migration: Support the integration of payroll data with enterprise systems such as Oracle or SAP. Lead or assist in potential software migrations and process optimizations within the Finance department.

  • Audit & Reporting: Lead internal and external payroll audits. Generate advanced analytical reports to support executive decision-making regarding headcount costs and budget variances.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive payroll accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the Pharma or Biotech industry.

  • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in ADP Workforce Now is mandatory.

  • Accounting Foundation: Strong understanding of GAAP as it relates to payroll accruals, taxes, and benefits accounting.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Oracle or SAP ERP environments.

  • Previous exposure to payroll operations within the Software/SaaS industry.

  • Familiarity with equity compensation administration (Stock Options/RSUs).
