Job Title:
Senior Software Engineer – Contract Verification & Formal Systems
Overview:
Are you passionate about building reliable, formal systems that integrate seamlessly into modern Python workflows? We’re seeking a dynamic Senior Software Engineer to design and implement a cutting-edge contract-verification framework that governs IDEXX's AI/ML platform. This role offers the chance to work on foundational tooling that enhances the safety, agility, and evolution of critical diagnostic systems. If you thrive at the intersection of formal logic, code analysis, and practical software engineering, this opportunity will let you shape the future of verification tooling in a collaborative, innovative environment.
Required Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Python, including decorators, metaclasses, type hints, and core libraries
- Demonstrated experience with formal or abstract structures such as logic, type systems, program analysis, or algebraic thinking (e.g., building tools from formal specifications)
- Deep understanding of AST-based code analysis and static verification techniques
- Excellent analytical reasoning skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous ideas into concrete, working software
- Effective written communication for design documentation, code reviews, and diagnostics
- Ability to independently scope, prioritize, and deliver complex features while escalating appropriately
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with contract and verification tooling, such as Eiffel, JML, or Dafny
- Knowledge of property-based testing frameworks like Hypothesis
- Familiarity with code-as-data techniques, including parsing, analysis, or code generation in Python (libcst, tree-sitter, mypy internals)
- Background in data engineering or ML, especially related to annotation schemas or data platform evolution
- Experience working with schema standards such as Avro, JSON Schema, or OpenAPI/Swagger
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
- Proven track record of building production-quality software involving formal specifications or verification methods
- No specific number of years required—demonstrated capability and recent relevant work matter most
Other Requirements:
- Hybrid work model in Westbrook, OR, or fully remote from Connecticut; flexibility to adapt as needed
- Ability to work within a W2 contractual arrangement (C2C not available)
- Start date: 08/01/2026
- Duration: 5 months, with potential for extension based on project needs
Success looks like:
- Within 30 days, you internalize the platform’s specifications and ship a functional predicate verification decorator with diagnostics.
- By 90 days, the core verification framework is enforcing real data contracts within CI pipelines, and teammates confidently write predicates independently.
- By project completion, the framework is well-documented, widely adopted, and the team is ready to extend it further, safeguarding codebase evolution with invariants.
